Providing VI Farmers and Fishers Business Advising at no cost
The creation of the Virgin Islands Agriculture Business Center provides local farmers and fishers with small business education and resources. The implementation of this center is “the goal of the 2021 Agricultural Plan directed by Act 8404 to increase agricultural productivity locally to make food security and sovereignty a reality for those living in the Virgin Islands.”
VI Agriculture Business Center clients will receive one-on-one consulting, business education training, and technical assistance at no charge to the client. The programs offered by the VI Agriculture Business Center aims to foster business development in the territory’s farming and fishery industries.
All offices are located in a Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
NPS Science after Dark
Meet at the Fort to talk with sea turtle scientists and learn about the history and heritage of turtles in the Virgin Islands.

Exposing students at earlier ages to activities within horticulture, biotechnology, animal science, food science, and other agriculture-related sectors will increase their curiosity and desire to pursue these industries prior to selecting their initial collegiate tracts or entering the general workforce. Additionally, by staying on-campus in the dormitories and participating in various scheduled cultural and leadership workshops, students will exchange ideas and forge relationships that may last a lifetime.

Planting trees properly is critical to their growth, health, establishment and survival. The workshop will cover basic tree planting practices including planting hole size, planting depth and distance, staking and after care.

Organic Farming 101
Mentees receive guidance from a qualified organic-certified farmer mentor, a $500 stipend to attend eligible educational events and support completing the organic systems plan. Mentors receive up to a $3,000 stipend each year for providing support to other farmers and professional development opportunities.

Get Prepared
Hurricane season is here, beginning June 1 and running through Nov. 30. Farmers, ranchers and forest landowners have been significantly impacted by hurricanes in recent years. USDA encourages agricultural producers to prepare for the 2025 season and get familiar with recovery resources.
SOA students are set to graduate at UVI commencement on Thursday, May 15, 2025, on St. Croix. Ms. Edna Alfred will become one the first students to graduate from UVI’s Associate of Science in Horticulture program.
